Just a little comparison from a biased point of view :-)
Just some thoughts and comparisons in regard to the original Woodstock of 1969
and the recently concluded Woodstock Wannabe of 1999
+ In 1999, capitalists took advantage of those attending with inflated prices for everything available, from cigarettes to food
* In 1969, breakfast was served to 400,000 people at no charge
+ In 1999, the music of the times revolved around violence and darkness
* In 1969, the music of the times revolved around peace, love and sharing
+ In 1999, fires burned as many looted and destructed the surroundings
* In 1969, the only thing burning was a lot of reefer :)
+ In 1999, the event was covered via pay-per-view and the internet with more focus on nudity and ignorance than on the music itself
* In 1969, the event was recorded and released as a movie and music soundtrack
+ In 1999, Woodstock featured music by groups that I just can't seem to identify with, try as I may
* In 1969, Woodstock featured music by groups who defined a generation and were the best of the best at the time
+ In 1999, ATM Machines were torn apart in an effort to steal all the money possible
* In 1969, no one had any money to be stolen and no one would have stolen it anyway
OK.. Some of the above is a bit
tongue-n-cheek, but let's face it... There was only ONE Woodstock. It was in 1969, and its mood, atmosphere and importance will never be imitated. Try as they may, todays' generation just can't seem to get a handle on what it's supposed to all be about. "All we are saying, is Give Peace a Chance"... Right John?
